This makes for the ability to have an incredibly realistic sounding and feeling double tracker with the ability to shape the feel at your finger(and foot-)tips. This led to a whole new design from the ground up, with a lot of tuning available for the amount and types of variation between the doubled voices. With this in mind, we wanted to make a new double track effect that responds dynamically with the way the player performs, adding the real-world dimension and depth you would get from having multiple recordings of a single part. Having spent a lot of time listening to a plethora of double tracked instruments, we found that the way a part is performed has a huge effect on how the layered tracks would feel. The Double Take is a new double tracking effect made specifically for the Helix. That said, I wanted to give a bit of an in-depth rundown specifically for the Double Take double tracker. We will keep doing our best to help you all love what you do more freely and easily!

I've worked on quite a few models for the Helix, and first of all I want to state that I love how much great and useful feedback our community provides for something we are so passionate about. ) since so many of our line 6 friends here are usually better spoken than myself. I'm not the most active on forums (not super experienced in posting. Hello! I'm Sam, one of the sound designers here at line 6. Tl:dr - If you have the guitar input on, high cut eq's, try turning them off and see if you like it after the 2.30 update.

It's a great update on a great instrument. I don't know what if anything that L6 did and I don't expect them to divulge everything either (nobody REALLY wants to know how the sausage is made). I was able to make even brighter tones but it never seemed harsh. I started exploring that by disabling the high cuts, turning the guitar input pad off, trying different mics/cabs. It probably took me about a day after the 2.30 update to realize that all my presets and new presets were sounding a touch sweeter and rounder on the high end (very scientific I know). It wasn't that big a deal, just part of getting the sound I wanted and I was content with what Helix delivered. Like many people over the past 2 years, I turned on the guitar input pad, selected darker sounding mic/cab options or IR's, used a high cut EQ, even rolled down the tone knob on my guitars LOL. I play guitars that are known for being present/cutting/bright in the band mix - Tele, Strat, Mira. For solos, the Mimiq can really add something unique without having to replicate the solo multiple times. To my ears, 2.30 improved the overall high end sound across the Helix. During all the mixing crapola, I usually include the AMT track as a layer this way or an another.I totally agree with this approach and would do the same: for rhythm parts, tracking is definitely the way to go, maybe even harmony parts, too. I'd surely keep the option of tracking with AMT pedals as they are quick and I prefer their response to any amp sim plug-in running on my computer but I record line guitars as well anyway so before mixing I'll run/reamp the signal through the big rig the traditional way using microphones, preamps compressors e.t.c. During all the mixing crapola, I usually include the AMT track as a layer this way or an another. Well, especially youtube videos that are watched many times on phones and the like that sounds like **** anyway.įor recording an album I would not use it for laying rhythm tracks (for solos, I think maybe), the normal L/R tracks recorded separately is the way to go there. As it is a computer in the core, I think it can be set to a single one to make life easier but I'll have to research / contact the support to confirm that.Īs I've said, it is not deadly at all onstage and for youtube videos and the like.

There is some sort of switch between the algorythms every 10 seconds or so that changes the phase.
